Trump announced on Truth Social that he would not attend his son Don Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson due to “circumstances pertaining to Government and my love for the United States of America.” This choice contrasts with a memo Biden sent during his vice presidency.

In 2014, Biden issued a memo to his staff emphasizing that he did not want them to miss important family events for work. Addressed to his staff, the memo stated: “I do not expect nor do I want any of you to miss or sacrifice important family obligations for work.” Biden highlighted family commitments such as birthdays, weddings, religious ceremonies, and times of need as priorities. He expressed disappointment if staff worked during these moments.

This memo, which Biden described as an “unwritten rule” from his Senate days, underscores his commitment to family time. The memo resurfaced when shared by Andrew Weinstein, a former U.S. Public Delegate to the UN. Many viewed this stance as a reflection of Biden’s empathetic leadership.

Trump’s Reasons for Missing the Wedding

Trump’s absence from his son’s wedding was addressed in a Truth Social post, citing Government duties as the reason. He stated the importance of remaining in Washington, D.C., during that period. Trump mentioned potential tensions with Iran as a factor affecting his decision, indicating it was a challenging choice to make.

This decision sparked debate. Some compared it to Biden’s memo, while others argued that a president’s responsibilities differ from those of a staffer.
