On Independence Day, the Great American State Fair was bustling with visitors who came to celebrate the holiday and reflect on its significance. People shared their thoughts on spending the Fourth of July with family, emphasizing its importance.

Tom Rutledge, a grandfather from Texas, expressed emotional sentiments about the holiday, highlighting the sacrifices made by those who served the nation. “It makes us emotional because of our country and the people who died,” he said, advocating for educating younger generations about the nation’s values.

Rutledge brought his 13-year-old grandson to the event, aiming to provide him a firsthand experience of the celebration. “I wanted him at 13 to experience this,” Rutledge noted, pointing out the gap in understanding national values among the younger generation.

Younger attendees displayed strong patriotic feelings. Despite lengthy journeys, storm warnings, and the summer heat, children showed excitement for fireworks and planes flying overhead.

For adults, the fair served as a reminder of national unity. A father from Florida appreciated the presence of fellow patriots and service members. “I’m looking forward to being around all citizens who make this country great,” he remarked.

Community spirit was evident throughout the fair. Crowds interacted positively, forming connections. Judy traveled from Connecticut with her family to show support after officials withdrew backing for the fair. “It’s crowded, [and] people are nice,” a couple said, indicating newfound friendships with others in line.

The event highlighted a shared sense of patriotism, bringing together people from varied backgrounds. The fair was a testament to the common values and holiday spirit cherished by Americans.
