The England men’s national team has arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida, to embark on their 2026 FIFA World Cup training regimen. The focus on adapting to the Florida heat is set to play a critical role, as conditions in many of the 16 host cities across the United States involve high temperatures.
England players are set to use high-tech palm-cooling devices in the United States to help combat heat during the World Cup,
wrote BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel. Research indicates that cooling the palms can effectively lower the core body temperature, a vital factor for in-game recovery and enhanced performance. England plans to employ these devices both in their training sessions and during scheduled water breaks throughout the tournament.
The threat of heat illnesses looms large, with NPR reporting that 67 out of 104 matches involve conditions that constitute potential risks, and 39 matches deemed high-risk settings.
England will commence its World Cup campaign against Croatia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on June 17. Despite a forecast of 90 degrees with a ‘realfeel’ of 97 degrees, the stadium’s roof will mitigate any heat issues for players. The team will proceed to face Ghana on June 23 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, followed by a match against Panama at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 27.
Back in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, England reached the quarterfinal stage. Expectations are high for the current squad to match or surpass this achievement in the upcoming event. The nation holds the third-best odds to claim its first World Cup title since 1966.
