Boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is facing potential prison time after being charged with writing a bad check for a luxury item in Las Vegas. The 49-year-old fighter is confronting two felony charges related to theft of property over $100,000 and issuing a check with fraudulent intent.
According to Clark County prosecutors, the allegations against Mayweather originate from a New Year’s Eve shopping excursion in 2024. During this outing, he reportedly attempted to purchase an exclusive Audemars Piguet watch.

Mayweather used a $200,000 check from his Wells Fargo account, which was returned due to insufficient funds. The boutique owners reportedly spent over a year trying to resolve the situation discreetly. Despite sending a certified demand letter, they allegedly received no response from Mayweather.

This led to a criminal summons. Mayweather’s legal representatives appeared in Las Vegas court without him on Monday. If convicted of both charges, he could face up to 24 years in prison. This issue with the $200,000 check is part of broader financial challenges for Mayweather.
The former champion is dealing with substantial debts, including a $7 million tax lien from the IRS for overdue taxes. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $1 million in back child support to a former partner. Other financial disputes include unpaid bills for private jets and New York apartment rent.

Despite these challenges, Mayweather continues to arrange exhibition matches, including an anticipated rematch with Manny Pacquiao expected in September. In the ring, he’s willing to face anyone; outside, financial pressures continue.
