Heightened Security for Trump’s Attendance at NBA Finals Game 3

3 weeks ago 0

Massive security measures are in place for Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York City due to former President Donald Trump attending. The New York Police Department (NYPD) and Secret Service have enforced a ‘frozen zone’ around Madison Square Garden, prompting advisories for fans and a strict no-bag policy. Criticism came from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who expressed discontent with Trump’s visit.

Former FBI agent James Gagliano noted recent incidents at Penn Station as further justification for these stringent protocols. A security perimeter surrounds the arena, forcing fans to navigate through extensive checkpoints. Trump’s attendance marks a historic moment as he becomes the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game.

Not everyone is pleased. San Antonio Spurs player De’Aaron Fox criticized the inconvenience caused by increased security, noting disruptions to players’ routines. Despite this, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson downplayed the impact, focusing on the game instead. He stated, ‘No, I have not felt any inconvenience. We’ve got a big game tonight.’

The intensified security presence included the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) alongside the NYPD, causing heavy traffic in midtown Manhattan. Fans who secured tickets experienced delays as they passed through security.

De’Aaron Fox, reflecting on the disrupted routine, mentioned increased security and earlier bus schedules. ‘We got, obviously, more security. We gotta like send stuff early,’ Fox commented. Photos on social media showed Spurs’ player Victor Wembanyama undergoing security checks, highlighting the level of alertness.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown avoided commenting on whether Trump’s attendance was appropriate. He focused on preparations for the upcoming game and discussed his decision to stay at a hotel downtown for convenience.

The security measures reflect Trump’s broader pattern of attending major sports events during his second term, including the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, and Ryder Cup.
