Hurricane Isaias Approaches Florida Panhandle as a Strengthening Threat

36 minutes ago 0

Hurricane Isaias reached Category 2 status on Thursday evening, with forecasts indicating further intensification as it nears the Florida Panhandle by late Friday. According to the National Hurricane Center, its landfall is projected near Pensacola. However, the storm’s path might alter as it moves northward in the Gulf.

Forecasters have noted that while Isaias might weaken slightly before making landfall, it is expected to remain at least a Category 1 hurricane. Regions in the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama, and southern Mississippi are under a hurricane warning due to the anticipated damaging hurricane-force winds.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential long-term power outages due to these winds. Heavy rainfall and storm surge risks are possible far from the hurricane’s center, particularly towards the east. A life-threatening storm surge is forecasted from the Mouth of the Mississippi River to Suwannee, Florida.

The latest tracking map includes spaghetti models that show the paths predicted by various storm forecasting models. These provide insights into the storm’s possible routes as it heads towards the US Gulf Coast.
