Recent developments have seen all U.S. Air Force bombers return from the United Kingdom to their bases in the United States due to a suspected terrorist plot. U.S. officials hinted at possible connections to Iran, targeting a U.S. military facility last week.

Around twelve B-1 bombers were moved from Royal Air Force (RAF) Station Fairford, located in Gloucestershire, England. This base is the only European forward-operating location for American heavy bombers.

The Pentagon confirmed, “We can acknowledge now that all U.S. bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have re-deployed to their home stations in the United States. Despite the relocation, our bomber fleet remains fully prepared to conduct long-range strike missions from the continental United States whenever necessary.”

RAF Fairford serves as a strategic European base for U.S. bomber operations. These operations have included missions targeting Iranian sites.

Recent findings by U.K. officials included three suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford containing fuel accelerants. Although no improvised explosive devices were discovered, a significant amount of petrol was found.

Authorities are investigating potential ties with Iranian state proxies. They arrested a British-Iranian dual national under suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented that the plot “clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor.”

President Donald Trump mentioned that Iran might be involved, reflecting ongoing hostilities between the United States and Iran.

Six arrests connected to the incident occurred, involving five British nationals. All suspects were later released on bail, and investigations continue.

A statement from officials reassured the public, explaining the releases were grounded in experienced investigative decisions.
