Police have initiated a death investigation following the passing of a Gage Park woman at a Chicago hospital, more than a week after she experienced a fall and an apparent domestic battery. The deceased, Maria Delgado, 54, had been in the hospital since October 9.
Delgado’s hospitalization began after she fell during an unspecified event she attended. On the way to the hospital, she and a 58-year-old man argued about the fall. During the argument, the man allegedly struck her face near the 3900 block of West 58th Street in the West Elsdon neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
The man was arrested upon arrival at the hospital. Authorities charged him with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery.
Delgado passed away last Saturday afternoon at Stroger Hospital. Both police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed her death. The cause of death remains pending further investigation and additional studies as per the medical examiner’s office.
As of Tuesday evening, Wentworth Area detectives are continuing their investigation.
