Iranian tankers transporting millions of barrels of crude oil have successfully navigated the U.S. blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This development comes just days before the anticipated unveiling of a U.S.-Iran peace agreement.
Details of the Tanker Movements
Two Iranian tankers, named Diona and Hero 2, which fall under U.S. sanctions, have passed through the blockade. Together, they carry approximately 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil. This information was provided by the shipping data platform, TankerTrackers.
“At least two National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) VLCC supertankers named DIONA (9569695) and HERO2 (9362073) have exited the US Navy blockade perimeter carrying a combined total of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil between them,” TankerTrackers reported on X.
The information further mentions a third NITC tanker, described as a Suezmax, which has also managed to bypass the blockade with an additional 1 million barrels of crude oil.
The Blockade and Upcoming Peace Deal
President Donald Trump imposed a naval blockade on Iran in April. This decision followed unproductive negotiations in Pakistan and aimed to compel Iran to allow international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. It also sought to prevent Iran from disrupting maritime activities.
Simultaneously, the U.S.-Iran peace agreement is expected to be disclosed during a signing ceremony at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland on Friday. Although specific details remain undisclosed, President Trump has confidently stated that the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely open.”
“I think a lot of great things are going to happen in the Middle East right now. And very importantly, the oil is plummeting down and the stock market is shooting up like a rocket today,” Trump announced at the G7 meeting in France this week.
He added that the primary goal was to ensure that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon. Iran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, which was the fundamental objective of the negotiations.
The situation is evolving, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
