Indiana Fever’s star player, Kelsey Mitchell, delivered an impressive performance on Tuesday night, scoring 16 points in the first quarter alone and finishing with a total of 29 points. This helped Indiana secure a 101-95 victory against the Toronto Tempo, marking their fifth consecutive win.
Caitlin Clark was also instrumental in maintaining Indiana’s winning momentum, adding 24 points to the team’s tally even though Mitchell missed the fourth quarter.
Mitchell and Clark have made their mark in WNBA’s record books by each scoring at least 20 points in the same game 16 times this season. This breaks the previous record of 15 games, which was set by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter of the Phoenix Mercury in 2008.

Mitchell’s efforts also tied her with A’ja Wilson, a four-time WNBA MVP, for consecutive games scoring at least 20 points. However, after an intense third quarter where she scored eight points in under a minute, Mitchell exited due to overheating, as reported by Fever’s head coach Stephanie White.

Aliyah Boston contributed 16 points, and Sophie Cunningham was flawless with her three 3-point shots, finishing with 13 points, ensuring the Fever never lost the lead. The Fever have now won 10 out of their past 12 matches, while the Toronto Tempo have suffered their 11th defeat in a row.
Despite Toronto’s Marina Mabrey closing the gap with two consecutive 3-pointers in the final quarter, the Tempo couldn’t overtake the Fever. Indiana’s visit to Toronto was met with mixed reactions from the crowd, especially towards Cunningham, who garnered boos and cheers.

Controversy surrounded Cunningham after she expressed opposition to transgender girls and women in female sports in an ESPN profile last month. Late in the game, fans displayed support for transgender rights, as seen during a timeout.
The Indiana Fever will next face the Dallas Wings, while the Toronto Tempo prepares to take on the Washington Mystics.
