Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta on Friday. This visit coincided with the first anniversary of a tragic shooting that claimed the life of a police officer and instilled fear among the agency’s staff.
During his visit, Kennedy commended the scientists at the CDC for their invaluable work. Despite his previous criticisms of the agency and recent federal health department cuts impacting hundreds of positions, Kennedy expressed his appreciation for their efforts.
Some scientists attending the event found Kennedy’s praise challenging to accept given his earlier critical stance. However, he maintained that while their work is important, there should be an encouraged skepticism towards scientific authorities.
