First Ballots Mailed for 2026 General Election
The first absentee ballots for the 2026 general election are being mailed today. North Carolina will start sending ballots to voters who have requested them in all its 100 counties. Missouri Supreme Court Blocks GOP-Drawn Congressional Map
The Missouri Supreme Court has ruled that the newly redrawn congressional map, which would have displaced Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, is not to be used for this year’s elections. This decision is seen as a setback for Republicans. The court also mandates a referendum on the map’s future use to be added to the November ballot. Consequently, this year’s elections will use the previous district lines.
Maryland to Vote on Redistricting Amendment
The Maryland Supreme Court has approved the inclusion of a Democratic-backed congressional redistricting amendment on the November ballot. The decision overturns previous lower court rulings that had obstructed its progress. However, the court requires a revision of the ballot summary before the vote.
Adam Telle Appointed Acting Army Secretary
President Trump has appointed Adam Telle as the acting Army secretary, following Dan Driscoll’s departure. Driscoll left amid reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Telle, who serves as the assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, has a long career in Republican politics, having worked for Republican senators and in the White House during Trump’s first term.
