Lawmakers Push for Continued Investigation into Epstein Case

14 minutes ago 0

Representatives Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, and Suhas Subramanyam, a Democrat from Virginia, are calling for further investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein case. Despite sitting on opposite sides politically, both have committed to pursuing answers regardless of which party controls the House next year.

During an appearance on NewsNation with Chris Cuomo, the lawmakers discussed the need for greater transparency and access to records for survivors of Epstein’s actions. Attorney General Todd Blanche had stated the Department of Justice’s review of the Epstein files was completed, but the representatives argue otherwise.

Mace highlighted the status of a discharge petition referred to as “Epstein 2.0.” This petition is two signatures short of the required number to pass. If successful, it would permit survivors to access documents from the investigation. State attorneys general, including from New Mexico, could also pursue investigations if federal authorities choose not to.

Subramanyam noted that efforts would continue if Democrats gained control of the House. He emphasized the importance of enforcing subpoenas and compelling testimony from individuals who previously avoided answering questions or providing documents. Earlier interviews often lacked formal obligation, resulting in incomplete responses.

Cuomo suggested a closed session for survivors to safely share information on Epstein’s accomplices. Mace expressed full support for this idea, ensuring a safe environment for survivors. Both politicians identified the fear survivors have of defamation lawsuits from powerful individuals.

Mace introduced a bill aiming to protect survivors by covering legal fees if they win defamation cases. Subramanyam stressed the broader need for policy changes to better protect victims of sexual violence, indicating this issue extends beyond the Epstein investigation.
