LeBron James has concluded his highly-anticipated free agency decision by signing a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. This move marks the beginning of his 24th season in the NBA.
Before choosing the 76ers, James received proposals from various NBA players. Tyrese Maxey, another player represented by James’ agent, Rich Paul, reached out to James with texts and calls.
Maxey stated that convincing James did not require much effort: “Not many. It wasn’t a lot of convincing. Couple phone calls, couple texts,” he shared, according to team insider John Clark of NBC. “We’re good friends. Now, I guess we’re friends. He’s a lot older than me, but I guess we’re friends.”
The 76ers also made a significant addition by acquiring five-time NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown through a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics. With the additions, Philadelphia’s expected starting lineup includes James, Maxey, Brown, Joel Embiid, and VJ Edgecombe.
Maxey enters this new season following an impressive performance in 2025-26, where he achieved a career-high average of 28.3 points per game. He was the second leading scorer in the Eastern Conference, just behind Brown, who averaged 28.7 points per game.
With these strategic additions, the 76ers are positioned as one of the top contenders to advance from the Eastern Conference in the upcoming season.
