Lionel Richie expressed gratitude to his fans after experiencing a health issue on stage. This incident led to the postponement of several concerts. Over the weekend, Richie, 77, shared his thanks on Instagram, displaying a joyful smile and dance moves in a series of concert photos.
Richie wrote, “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.” His message followed a successful return to performing after the health concern. He noted, “Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together.” Richie eagerly looks forward to upcoming performances, stating, “See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long!”
Approximately a week earlier, Richie had to postpone shows when he felt “dizzy” during the opening concert in Minnesota. The United Center announced the cancellation of shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, per doctors’ advice.
A statement on Instagram read, “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.” A public information officer confirmed that someone was transported from the Grand Casino Arena to a local hospital late on June 24, 2026.
The exact details of Richie’s health condition were not disclosed. However, Richie later declared his readiness to “party all night long.” During a performance of “Dancing on the Ceiling” at the Grand Casino Arena, he showed signs of discomfort, pausing to sit down and joke, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a– down.” He joined “American Idol” as a judge in 2018.
Later in the show, Richie moved to the piano for a seated rendition of “Three Times a Lady.” Fans were left waiting for about 40 minutes before the announcement of show cancellation. Stephanie Giang-Paunon and Tracy Wright contributed to the coverage.
