Malik Nabers Poised for Return as Giants Prepare for Season Opener

1 month ago 0

Malik Nabers has surprised many New York Giants supporters during the training camp with his impressive performance on the field. Speculation surrounded his readiness for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys on ‘Sunday Night Football.’ After practicing without a red non-contact jersey, head coach John Harbaugh gave an optimistic update on the Giants’ 2024 first-round pick, indicating his likely availability for the season opener.

Speaking to reporters, Harbaugh mentioned that it’s “reasonable to assume” Nabers is on track to start the season. This development is a positive sign for the wide receiver, who faced a torn right ACL and meniscus damage in Week 4 last year.

“Probably moving the best we’ve seen him look,” Harbaugh commented about Nabers after witnessing him in a regular white jersey during practice. The practices included 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills on Monday.

Harbaugh mentioned that contact with defenders in practice is something he’d welcome for Nabers. The medical and training staff have provided favorable reports on Nabers’ rehab, strengthening his case for Week 1 participation.

Despite not donning the full-contact gear yet, Nabers has moved away from the red non-contact uniform. Harbaugh aims to ensure Nabers transitions gradually rather than abruptly jumping into full contact.

Nabers expressed his eagerness to return to the field: “My soul has been dead for so long,” he said, highlighting his drive to play again. His performance has only improved since he surprised fans with his agility and skill in training camp.

Although it’s unlikely Nabers will play in the Giants’ final preseason game against the New York Jets, his efforts continue within team practices. No joint practices are planned between the teams, keeping the focus on internal preparations.

Nabers has developed a strong rapport with quarterback Jaxson Dart. Drafted by the Giants in 2025 from Ole Miss, Dart had limited time with Nabers before Nabers’ knee injury.

Giants fans are eager to see what Dart, who scored 24 total touchdowns in 14 games last season, and Nabers, who amassed 1,204 yards in 15 games during his rookie season in 2024, can accomplish in a full season.

The Giants will face the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 13 in a primetime game, scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
