Currently, France, Spain, the United States, Italy, and Turkey are the top five most-visited countries. Mexico holds the sixth position and is already recognized as a growing tourism hub. Mexican officials see the World Cup as a potential catalyst for further growth.
President Claudia Sheinbaum has set significant goals for Mexico. Her vision is to boost the country’s global tourism ranking before the end of her term in 2030.
The largest World Cup to date features 104 games across 48 countries. It is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The final game, hosted in Mexico City, will showcase Mexico’s national team against England.
Before the tournament, estimates suggested that 5.5 million visitors might arrive in Mexico during the six-week event. This influx could generate substantial economic activity. Though some remain skeptical about these numbers, Mexico’s relatively open approach to tourism allows it to capitalize on this opportunity.
Due to President Trump’s stringent immigration policies, some visitors might prefer Mexico over the United States. Gabriela Cuevas, the Mexican government’s World Cup representative, emphasized Mexico’s reputation as a welcoming country.
