Authorities suspect that ransom notes addressed to Nancy Guthrie’s family, including one claiming her death, were sent by those who abducted her. Investigators suggest that both notes originated from the same computer IP address.
The first note demanded significant bitcoin payments for Nancy Guthrie’s release. Later, a second note stated that she had died, although the writers indicated her death was unintended, according to source analyses.
Savannah Guthrie, the co-host of the ‘Today’ show and Nancy Guthrie’s daughter, discussed the authenticity of these notes in a March interview with NBC. ‘There are many notes,’ she said, ‘but I believe the two we received and responded to are genuine.’
Sent on February 2, one day after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home, the first note was distributed to three media outlets through online tip lines. It included details about Guthrie’s home, like an Apple Watch with a white band on her bedroom floor and a broken back porch light. Multiple sources confirmed the note was addressed to Savannah Guthrie.
The second note, sent on February 6, shared the same style but made no demands. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings responded publicly in an Instagram video, pleading for their mother’s return. ‘We understand your message,’ Savannah Guthrie stated. ‘We beg you to return our mother so we can celebrate together. We will pay for her return.’
An FBI and Pima County detective task force continues to probe the kidnapping, seeking Nancy Guthrie and her abductors.
