1 month ago 0

Neal McDonough, at 60, recently talked about a challenging period in his life and career during an interview with Fox News Digital. The actor, known for his role in the Jimmy Stewart biopic ‘Jimmy,’ shared insights into a time when he thought his Hollywood career had ended.

Career Setbacks

McDonough recalled being dismissed from a show because he refused to kiss a co-star. This decision led others in the industry to perceive him as overly religious, impacting job opportunities. He admitted his drinking became problematic after being blackballed, causing significant personal losses.

Despite these difficulties, McDonough found support from friends like Luke Perry, who offered his home to McDonough’s family after they lost theirs. Perry’s kindness came during the launch of ‘Justified,’ yet McDonough struggled with feelings of inadequacy.

Family and Faith

Faced with adversity, McDonough turned to introspection and spiritual guidance. His wife, Ruve, played a crucial role in helping him quit drinking. She gave him a stark choice between their family and alcohol. Her unwavering support motivated McDonough to never look back.

Expressing gratitude, McDonough described his wife as his ‘good luck charm.’ Together, they ventured into film production, creating projects like ‘Boon,’ ‘The Warrant: Breaker’s Law,’ ‘Homestead,’ and ‘The Last Rodeo.’

Professional Achievements

McDonough met Ruve in 2000 during ‘Band of Brothers’ filming. They married in December 2003 and have five children. Celebrating Jimmy Stewart’s birthday held special significance for McDonough this year due to his deep involvement in Stewart’s story.

Immersion into Stewart’s world made the historical figure more meaningful to McDonough. He admired the portrayal by KJ Apa and felt fortunate to be part of the project.
