North Carolina Woman Missing in the Caribbean: Husband Suspects Drowning

A 43-year-old woman from North Carolina named Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell went missing during a trip to the Caribbean. Her husband, Cailen Waddell, believes she may have drowned. Liz was last seen on July 22 while on vacation in Grenada, and new details suggest her last interaction was with a group of jet skiers.

Cailen shared updates on FindLiz.com, a website created by the family to disseminate information. He revealed that jet skiers spoke with Liz for several minutes, advising her to get out of the water and join them. Liz reportedly assured them she was a good swimmer, signaling with a thumbs up.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on July 22, shortly before she was reported missing to the Royal Grenada Police Force. Surveillance footage captured at a nearby Airbnb property showed a person, believed to be Liz, walking with a towel and then jumping into the water from a dock.

Despite extensive search efforts involving drones, dive teams, and police dogs, Liz has not been found. Cailen traveled to Grenada to assist in the search two days after she was reported missing but returned to the U.S. a week later empty-handed.

The local police continue to treat the situation as a missing persons case. Cailen expresses his grief and the hope that the investigation will provide more understanding of what occurred. He has stated, “If Liz walked out of the jungle tomorrow and asked for her passport, I’d not be surprised and would immediately go to get her.”
