Sam Forstag’s Bid to Break Montana’s Republican Streak

1 hour ago 0

Sam Forstag, a 32-year-old former smoke jumper and union leader, is aiming to make history as Montana’s first Democrat elected to the U.S. House in over 30 years. Forstag seeks to overturn Republican Aaron Flint, who was nominated to fill the shoes of retiring Rep. Ryan Zinke. Initially marked likely Republican, the Cook Political Report now sees this open seat as a toss-up.

In his campaign, Forstag confronted rapid-fire questions on issues such as data centers, healthcare, and his top priorities in Congress if he claims victory.

The Washington Post is rigorously questioning candidates across the country. As the 2026 midterm election approaches, they continue to push Republicans and Democrats to clarify their positions swiftly.

Former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, alongside Virginia Democrats, emphasized the need for strategic thinking in taking control of the House. At a rally in Henrico County, candidates pressed the importance of ending the unpopular war in Iran, which impacts oil markets and has become a contentious issue for Republicans during the midterms.

Buttigieg, a military veteran and potential Democratic presidential candidate for 2028, stressed that achieving a majority hinges on efforts in Virginia.

President Donald Trump recently proposed that New Mexico be renamed to New America. While his executive power permits renaming features like lakes, renaming states such as New Mexico would require congressional and state action, which Trump lacks.

Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced an arrest warrant for former Cuban president Raúl Castro, charging him with conspiracy and murder related to the 1996 downing of two civilian planes. Although largely symbolic, it reflects the ongoing pressure from the Trump administration against Cuba.

In recent developments, Saudi Arabia postponed its Future Investment Initiative, originally slated for October in Riyadh. Citing recent Houthi attacks that claimed lives and aimed at oil infrastructure, the decision aligns with Saudi Arabia’s military efforts in Yemen.

Jon Stewart continues under contract with Paramount to host “The Daily Show” on Mondays through December 2028. Despite fears of censorship following last year’s Paramount-Skydance merger, Stewart’s extension signals the channel’s continued support for comedic critique of Trump’s administration.
