Republican Senator John Curtis has requested an investigation into Donald Trump Jr’s foreign business activities and his receipt of gifts, including a reportedly extravagant wedding afterparty funded by a Russian oligarch. Curtis addressed his concerns in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, detailing the sponsorship of Trump Jr’s event on a private island by Umar Kremlev, who recently accompanied a delegation with Vladimir Putin in China.
Curtis highlighted additional worries about Trump Jr’s involvement in cryptocurrency ventures backed by his family, ongoing international real estate dealings, and alleged investments in defense contracting. He questioned how these relationships might influence perceptions of favorable treatment, potentially compromising national security or conflicting with American or allied interests.
He urged the committee to investigate potential misuse of private family connections for financial or preferential gain from domestic and foreign entities. Curtis also suggested that both Trump Jr and Hunter Biden, former President Joe Biden’s son, be subpoenaed to testify about their business activities.
Newsweek has reached out to The Trump Organization for a comment outside of typical business hours.
