An individual was sexually assaulted early Sunday morning at an off-campus gathering close to the University of Chicago, authorities reported. The assault victim notified officials at 2:10 a.m., around 30 minutes after the incident took place. The suspect remains unknown, according to an incident report from the university.
The party was hosted at 5625 S. University Ave. in Hyde Park, an address identified on social media as belonging to the Lambda chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. The University of Chicago’s student guidelines explicitly state that sexual misconduct breaches campus community standards and is deemed “unacceptable,” regardless of its legal status. The handbook encourages anyone who has encountered sexual misconduct to report the occurrence and seek medical assistance.
“Sexual misconduct can be devastating to the person who experiences it directly and can adversely impact family, friends, and the larger community,”
The handbook includes this statement on the negative effects of sexual misconduct.
