Law enforcement is addressing an incident involving gunfire near the White House grounds. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the response. Journalists present on Saturday reported a series of gunshots. They were advised to take cover in the press briefing room, where U.S. Secret Service officers restricted their movement.
There were no initial reports of injuries. The U.S. Secret Service acknowledged on social media that they were aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, close to the White House. They are working to confirm details with personnel on the scene.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated in a social media post that officers were responding and updates would be provided as information becomes available. At the time, President Donald Trump was inside the White House.
The Metropolitan Police Department has not yet responded to requests for additional information.
