Swig’s Dirty Sodas Expand to Suburban Areas

1 month ago 0

Swig, known for its unique ‘dirty sodas,’ is expanding into the suburbs with plans to open 13 new locations. These drive-thru soda shops will appear in spots like Naperville, Crest Hill, Romeoville, and Bolingbrook. The Crest Hill shop aims to open in August, with others following next year.

Dirty sodas are nonalcoholic drinks that blend regular sodas, creamer, and flavored syrups. Sometimes, fruit juice or puree is added, resulting in a cloudy look that gives the drink its name. Originating in Utah, these drinks became popular within the Mormon community, known for avoiding caffeinated coffee and tea.

The trend gained wider attention through platforms like TikTok and TV shows such as “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” Notable celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo have helped boost its popularity.

Besides dirty sodas, Swig offers other beverages like Refreshers, which are water-based, energy drinks known as Revivers, and a variety of snacks, including their pink frosted sugar cookie.

Founded in 2010 in St. George, Utah, Swig has expanded to over 150 locations across 16 states. The new suburban locations will be managed by franchisees Derek and Michelle Hincks of Sip City Social LLC. Derek Hincks expressed enthusiasm for joining the brand, citing Swig’s ability to create enjoyable customer experiences.

Swig’s success has caught the eye of prominent restaurant chains such as McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Sonic, all of which now offer similar drinks. Swig has become a sought-after franchise model, similar to 7 Brew, focusing on drive-thru-centric, compact spaces that operate in as little as 800-850 square feet.
