As the 2026 FIFA World Cup final approaches, hundreds of tickets remain available on the organizer’s primary portal, despite the tournament nearing its end. The final match between Spain and Argentina takes place at MetLife Stadium, temporarily branded as the New York New Jersey Stadium for this event, boasting a capacity of 80,663 seats.

Data from TicketData.com shows 271 seats available on FIFA’s main ticketing portal as of Sunday morning. Newsweek’s analysis indicates 252 available tickets, priced between $10,990 and $24,995. Resale platforms StubHub and SeatGeek offer hundreds of listings, with StubHub showing 200 single-seat listings, 397 for pairs, 72 for groups of three, and 140 for groups of four.

TicketData.com notes the cheapest seat on secondary markets is priced at $7,633, after a 21% price drop over two weeks. Resale availability doesn’t mean these seats will remain empty, as vendors might attend if unsold.

“FIFA’s pricing strategy has been hit and miss,” Stephen Shapiro, professor of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina told Newsweek.

FIFA attributes higher prices to tournament interest, but criticism has been voiced from various sectors. New York and New Jersey Attorneys General initiated a probe into FIFA’s ticketing system, highlighting confusion, fake scarcity, and high prices. A German court ruled against FIFA’s manipulative ticket sales tactics, sparking further scrutiny.
