Alarming Spike in Chicago Violence

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has raised concerns over the escalating violence in Chicago, highlighting a weekend where eight people were killed and many others injured. He sharply criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker for reportedly turning down federal assistance to tackle the ongoing crisis. Blanche emphasized the importance of local and federal collaboration to combat such violence, drawing parallels with successful efforts in Washington, D.C. and Memphis.

Details on the California Library Shooting

On a different note, a tragic shooting occurred in a Northern California library, reportedly influenced by past mass shootings, including the 1999 Columbine High School event. Officials identified the suspect as 18-year-old Bradley Scott Sayer. Police stated he had no known ties to the library or victims. Before the shooting, Sayer conducted a walkthrough of the site, retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle, and then shot two people at the Butte County Library’s Chico branch.

“From the first 911 call to having him in custody was less than four minutes,” said Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge.

Authorities quickly responded to the scene after receiving multiple emergency calls. The rapid police intervention was crucial in preventing further casualties.

Victims and Aftermath

The shooter’s actions resulted in the deaths of 46-year-old Jacob Hull and 74-year-old Robert Johnson. A young girl was also injured and received hospital treatment. Sayer fired eight shots in total, and upon arrest, police found more weapons in his car.

Sayer, who had recently graduated from Chico High School, was reportedly fascinated by the Columbine shooting, even wearing a T-shirt referencing the event during the attack. He is currently awaiting arraignment.
