Trump Accuses Abdul El-Sayed of Muslim Brotherhood Ties

49 minutes ago 0

President Donald Trump on Thursday accused Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed of having connections with the Muslim Brotherhood. He made these comments during a lunch at the White House Rose Garden. Trump stated, “He’s a Muslim Brotherhood guy, 100%. How about having him on the Senate Intelligence Committee?”

El-Sayed has faced criticism from Republicans regarding social media posts by his half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi. She alleged that their mother was an active member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt during the 1970s. Despite this, El-Sayed has denied any family connections to the organization.

I have no ties; we have no ties, El-Sayed said during an NBC’s Meet the Press interview.

He accused political opponents of using anti-Muslim rhetoric, focusing on his faith rather than his policies. El-Sayed stated, “[Opponent Mike Rogers’] only strategy is to point to me, my name, and my faith, urging suspicion because of how we pray differently.”

El-Sayed’s candidacy, marked by a liberal agenda, has clashed with some Muslim voters who still support him, likening him to a “male version” of Ilhan Omar.

Despite El-Sayed’s denials, Abdelhadi’s social media statements complicate the narrative. In a 2012 post, she mentioned, “Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college #respect.” In another post, she expressed her family’s longstanding ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, though she criticized its political endeavors.

Trump expressed an eagerness to visit Michigan to further criticize El-Sayed, referring to him as a “fraud” and a “con man.”

For further updates, Fox News Digital has reached out to El-Sayed’s campaign for comment.
