The upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, known as “The Great American State Fair,” has seen some musical guests withdraw, partly due to connections with former President Donald Trump. Now, Trump is set to lead the event, according to organizers.
On Saturday, Trump addressed the situation on Truth Social, suggesting he might replace the performers by making an appearance himself. He referred to himself as “the GOAT,” or Greatest of All Time, a nod to his views on his presidential legacy.
Freedom 250, the group organizing the fair on Washington’s National Mall, confirmed Trump’s role in a statement. They announced that Trump would personally start the festivities on Wednesday, June 24. However, there was some confusion, as Trump’s social media posts mentioned Wednesday without specifying a date. The White House has not yet clarified.
Danielle Alvarez, spokesperson for Freedom 250, highlighted various attractions during the fair from June 25 to July 10. These include exhibits, family activities, musical performances, and more.
Trump expressed his discontent with the artists who left, suggesting an alternative rally. He proposed a “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY” instead of hosting artists he labeled as overpriced and unappealing.
Freedom 250, though claiming nonpartisan status, was initiated by Trump and is led by a former State Department appointee. Last week, artists such as Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride withdrew from the fair. Michaels and others cited concerns about the event’s political implications. McBride stated on Instagram that the event was presented as nonpartisan but felt misled.
Nevertheless, some performers, including Flo Rida, Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli, and Vanilla Ice, remain committed. Vanilla Ice’s representative expressed the artist’s pride in celebrating the anniversary.
