Tucker Carlson, known for his conservative media influence, announced intentions to help establish a new political party. This move comes after his departure from the Republican Party due to disagreements over the war with Iran.
Once a strong ally of President Trump, Carlson has become increasingly critical of the Republican Party’s recent actions, particularly regarding foreign policy. In an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review, he stated that there should be efforts to determine what is most beneficial for the country. He has no plans to run for office himself.
The political landscape is currently experiencing significant changes. Within the Democratic Party, the left wing has gained momentum. This shift stems from dissatisfaction with the party leadership’s position on Israel, especially following the conflict in Gaza. Meanwhile, the GOP remains divided over Trump’s handling of the Iranian situation.
Carlson, who gained popularity as a podcaster and former Fox News host, shared last month his decision to leave the GOP. He had consistently supported the party for 35 years but now believes it has strayed from ‘America first’ ideals under Trump’s leadership.
In his interview with the Columbia Journalism Review, Carlson touched on potential policies for his new party. He emphasized stopping all immigration, citing concerns about its impact on unemployment. However, many economists argue that immigration does not contribute to higher unemployment rates.
