Trump’s Modest Move on Federal Employee Reclassification

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump has taken a step toward making senior federal bureaucrats more accountable by signing an executive order. This order introduces a new category for federal employment, covering only about 8,000 top-level career employees. These individuals hold supervisory and policymaking positions.

This move marks a reduction from earlier plans. The administration previously indicated that the reclassification would impact up to 50,000 workers. Scott Kupor, the chief of the Office of Personnel Management, discussed these changes at The Washington Post’s “Building America” summit on June 4.

The effort to reclassify federal employees has been in progress for several years. The aim is to increase accountability among top federal bureaucrats. Critics and supporters of the policy had expected a more extensive application across the federal workforce.
