An incident occurred involving a Southwest Airlines plane and a ground equipment vehicle at Memphis International Airport on Sunday. Passengers were boarding when the vehicle contacted the aircraft, according to a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines.
No injuries were reported in the event, but Flight 4013 was withdrawn from service immediately after the incident.
“Southwest Flight 4013 was contacted by a ground equipment vehicle during boarding today at Memphis International Airport,” the airline stated.
The Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority verified the occurrence, labeling it as a unique incident.
Following the event, passengers were redirected to another aircraft to continue their journey. A spokesperson indicated that the substitute aircraft would fly to Dallas. However, Southwest’s website showed Flight 4013 continuing to Las Vegas instead.
Passengers left nearly four hours later than planned, shifting the intended arrival time from 1:50 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Southwest Airlines is conducting a detailed investigation into the event using their Safety Management System. The airline emphasized their commitment to safety, stating that nothing holds higher priority than the safety of their customers and staff.
