Historic Lincoln Documents Safe Despite Exhibit Heat Concerns

On July 16, two significant documents signed by Abraham Lincoln were temporarily removed from the Lincoln Memorial. The reason for their removal was rising temperatures in their display cases, reaching levels deemed unsafe. Fortunately, the documents experienced no damage, according to information shared by a representative of the donor on Monday morning.

These historic artifacts were displayed in the undercroft of the Lincoln Memorial. The rising temperatures inside the exhibit cases prompted the decision to remove them to ensure their preservation.

A copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, bearing Lincoln’s signature, was among the items on exhibit on June 18. This removal was a precautionary measure to protect the integrity of these valuable historical items.
