Netanyahu to Attend UN Assembly Despite Controversy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this September. This decision comes despite New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s calls for his arrest upon arrival in the city.

Netanyahu stated in an interview with Sean Hannity that he intends to speak out against what he terms as hate-driven rhetoric from Mayor Mamdani. He accuses Mamdani of attempting to alienate New York’s Jewish community.

“I’m going to New York,” Netanyahu affirmed, citing his commitment to countering the divisive statements made by Mamdani.

Mayor Mamdani has been a longstanding critic of Netanyahu, condemning the actions of Israeli forces in Gaza and Lebanon. He has labeled Netanyahu a “war criminal” for his role in these conflicts. Mamdani admits that the city lacks the legal authority to arrest Netanyahu under the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) guidelines, but calls on federal authorities to take action.

Netanyahu accuses Mamdani of inciting hatred, akin to the climate in the 1930s. Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has backed Mamdani’s demand for arrest, while former President Donald Trump criticized Israel’s ongoing military actions in the region, particularly in Lebanon.

Netanyahu refuted the ICC’s charges against him, describing the organization as “corrupt” and questioning why it singles him out but not entities like Hezbollah. He highlighted instances where the ICC’s actions appear inconsistent, noting that while Hamas was charged, it involved a deceased individual.

The Israeli Prime Minister warned that the ICC might target prominent figures like President Trump and American soldiers as war criminals. He shared details of a meeting with Trump, expressing strong mutual support.

On defense matters, Netanyahu stressed the shared goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He emphasized that this objective aligns with U.S. interests, suggesting diplomacy or other means to achieve it.
