The political scene in Oklahoma intensifies as Democrats decide between two newcomers for their U.S. Senate nomination. Voters will cast their ballots today to select either N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas, a nurse, or Jim Priest, a lawyer, as the nominee. The winner will face off against Republican Representative Kevin Hern in November.
In June, both Thomas and Priest emerged as the leading candidates from a five-way Democratic primary. Thomas garnered over 45 percent of the votes but did not achieve the majority required to avoid a runoff. Priest captured just under 24 percent of the vote, positioning him as Thomas’s primary competitor.
