Residents in the North African Spanish enclave of Ceuta voiced anger following a video showing migrants allegedly harming a young dolphin. The incident occurred near El Trampolin beach, where a group of men and boys lifted the dolphin out of water, a move that distressed local residents trying to intervene.
The video, shared online, depicted the group celebrating while some onlookers cheered. Reports suggest one man hit the dolphin with a stick, causing severe injury. Although some in the video shouted objections, the harm had already been done.
One viewer said, “The treatment showed extreme and unjustifiable cruelty”
Nadia Garcia Gomez highlighted the incident’s brutality on September 2, 2026, via social media. She called for the arrest of those responsible, citing the dolphin’s status as a protected species under Spanish and European laws. Her post also announced a petition aimed at prosecution.
This incident has intensified existing tensions in Ceuta, where a large influx of migrants from Morocco occurred in July 2026. Thousands crossed the border, with many returning to Morocco shortly after, but some remained, adding to local frustrations.
In response, some Ceuta residents demanded legal action and deportation. They criticized governmental inaction, which led to local actions such as destroying migrant tents at the beach.
