Florida Senate Candidate Angie Nixon Calls for Investigation into Opponent Ashley Moody

2 hours ago 0

Angie Nixon, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Florida, recently voiced a strong opinion against her Republican opponent, U.S. Senator Ashley Moody. Nixon, in a conversation with CNN host Kasie Hunt, described Moody as deceitful and accused her of redirecting $10 million meant for children’s Medicaid into political funds supporting Ron DeSantis.

Nixon accused Moody of voting to cut healthcare for over 440,000 Florida residents and spreading false information about Nixon’s political positions. These accusations, according to Nixon, justify her call for Moody’s investigation and possible imprisonment.

In the interview, Hunt sought confirmation on Nixon’s desire for Moody’s incarceration. Nixon affirmed, stating any punitive actions should follow the revelation of wrongdoing. She expressed intentions to investigate Moody’s conduct if elected as a senator.

Nixon cited interference in releasing a grand jury report by a judge appointed by Ron DeSantis as an example of corruption. She promised a thorough investigation into the alleged misuse of funds that could affect vulnerable children. Her comments were made in the presence of Senator Chris Murphy, who did not comment on the issue.

Nixon also criticized Moody as a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and stressed her commitment to protect Floridian interests. Nixon vowed to investigate the allegations against Moody further if elected.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) criticized Nixon’s remarks through spokeswoman Emma Hall, questioning Nixon’s position on imprisoning political opponents while advocating to reform the criminal justice system.

Nixon, aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America, won over establishment candidate Alexander Vindman earlier this year. Despite association with the Democratic Socialists of America, Nixon clarified that she is not a socialist, emphasizing her focus on public welfare, healthcare, and political reform.

Moody has denied all allegations related to the Medicaid funds in question and faces no legal charges regarding the Hope Florida settlement.
