1 month ago 0

Republican officials have reported recent communication with Representative Tom Kean Jr. after his unexplained absence from Congress. For several weeks, his whereabouts were unclear, fueling speculation and concern among his constituents and colleagues.

According to Republican leaders in New Jersey, phones began ringing unexpectedly when Mr. Kean reached out last week. His return to communication comes amid a critical re-election campaign. He has been away from his duties for nearly 12 weeks due to an undisclosed medical issue.

Carlos Santos reported receiving a call from Mr. Kean at 4:52 p.m. on Thursday. Shortly after, Joe LaBarbera, the Republican chairman of Sussex County, also received a call while he was in his vehicle.

“I asked him if he needed anything,” Mr. LaBarbera recalled, to which Mr. Kean replied, “Just your prayers.”

Mr. Santos noted that Mr. Kean sounded positive during their brief conversation. “He sounded healthy,” Mr. Santos said. “He sounded excited to get back on the campaign trail.” Despite these reassurances, Mr. Kean did not disclose the specific health issue that has kept him away since March.

This period of absence comes in the midst of a high-stakes re-election campaign, adding urgency to Mr. Kean’s communication with party officials. His return to the public eye is anticipated but details remain scarce.
