An American Airlines flight from Spain encountered brake problems and a blown tire after landing at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Tuesday afternoon. American Airlines Flight 41, a Boeing 787-800, traveled from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport and safely landed at O’Hare around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA reported the crew identified a brake issue, followed by a ‘blown tire’ after the landing. In response, passengers disembarked using stairs and were transported to the terminal by bus, while the FAA assured an investigation would follow.
American Airlines mentioned the flight carried 234 passengers and 11 crew members. In response to the issue, first responders were present ‘out of an abundance of caution.’ The passengers safely reached the terminal via bus.
The aircraft is now removed from service for inspection by American Airlines’ maintenance team. The airline apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused.
The reason for the brake malfunction remains unknown. The Chicago Fire Department has yet to provide comments regarding the incident, and updates are anticipated.
