By July 27, 2026, CBS News reported on the disappearance of Elizabeth Waddell, an American woman last seen on July 22 while vacationing in Grenada. Her disappearance occurred on Grand Anse Beach, located in Grenada’s capital city, St. George’s.
Waddell’s friend and spokesperson for the family, Amanda Romano-Harmon, stated that the Royal Grenada Police Force had obtained surveillance footage. The video captured the 44-year-old North Carolina resident making her way to the pier and entering the water. It showed her swimming and floating before she drifted out of the camera’s view, marking the last visuals of her known movements.
Police have yet to publicly release any images from this footage. On the day of her disappearance, Waddell had embarked on a three-week vacation with her close friend Heather Poole. The family revealed that she left the Airbnb around noon, wearing merely a swimsuit and carrying a towel. As time passed without her return, Poole embarked on a search and found only Waddell’s towel, with no further traces of her.
Describing Waddell, Romano-Harmon reiterated her generous nature and how she was known for her willingness to help others. Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, along with other family members, traveled to Grenada to support the search efforts. He described his wife as a loving and free-spirited individual who easily made friendships.
The authorities are calling for local residents and boaters in the area to provide any possible information they might have regarding Waddell’s disappearance. Additionally, the U.S. State Department confirmed its awareness of the situation concerning the missing American in Grenada.
