Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Expected to Resign

1 month ago 0

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is anticipated to resign following the White House’s decision to accept his resignation. This information comes from a reliable source and a White House official.

NBC News highlighted last week that Driscoll expressed a wish to exit his position by Labor Day. Multiple U.S. officials confirmed his meeting at the White House last week to discuss his future, though the outcome remains unclear.

Driscoll has been respected by both Republicans and Democrats, with rumors of his departure circulating for months. He has served in his current role since February 2025 and is closely connected with Vice President JD Vance.

Driscoll’s resignation marks the latest high-level departure from the Defense Department. Earlier, Navy Secretary John Phelan and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George were let go in the spring.

The Wall Street Journal initially reported on Driscoll’s resignation. Anna Kelly, a White House spokeswoman, praised Driscoll in a statement. She acknowledged his effective leadership in advancing the administration’s goals at the Department of the Army, citing his contribution to significant military operations, readiness, lethality, and mediating discussions between Russia and Ukraine.

Despite his accomplishments, Driscoll faced disagreements with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. These included conflicts over Army transformation and readiness, which were hindered by Hegseth’s dismissal of key Pentagon officials.

A source familiar with the situation noted Driscoll’s objections to the removal of generals supporting these initiatives. The Pentagon refrained from commenting, redirecting questions to the Army, yet there was no immediate response.

This story is still unfolding, and new updates will follow.
