Comedian Bert Kreischer offers a surprisingly simple recipe for the perfect burger. He insists that a good burger doesn’t require extravagant ingredients.
Simple Pleasures
Kreischer likens a great burger to a simple pleasure. He believes that traditional elements work best. A buttery, toasted brioche bun, American cheese, and classic toppings make up his ideal burger.
“A good burger is like great sex. It doesn’t need to be fancy,” Kreischer stated during an interview before hosting the Burger Bash at New York City’s Wine & Food Festival.
Though he’s open to adventurous toppings like raspberry jam and goat cheese, Kreischer admits it depends on his mood.
Smash Burger Expertise
Kreischer’s passion for burgers is evident on his cooking show, Something’s Burning. He became so skilled at making smash burgers that they became a staple for every meal.
“I got so good at making smash burgers that I went through a smash burger phase where I was having them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” he reflected.
Favorite Burger Experience
Among his burger experiences, one stands out. Kreischer highly regards the burgers served at Guy Fieri’s burger bar on Carnival cruise ships. He enjoys the large portions and customizable toppings.
“The best thing Guy Fieri has ever done in his life is the f—— Guy Fieri burger bar on the cruise ships,” he said.
He relishes the idea of spending an afternoon making burgers behind the counter if given the chance.
Focusing on the Burger Bash
Kreischer is gearing up to host the Burger Bash. Top burger makers from around the nation will compete for recognition.
He feels relieved that his role is hosting rather than judging, as he did at a previous food festival. For him, a winning burger doesn’t need to be adventurous. A well-cooked patty, American cheese, and a toasted bun is often enough.
