A brush fire erupted early Wednesday morning in Brentwood, threatening the Department of Veterans Affairs’ West Los Angeles Campus. Firefighters managed to stop its forward momentum, containing it to approximately 1.5 acres.
No injuries or property damage resulted from the blaze. Authorities are investigating the cause.
This incident occurred as the first Santa Ana winds of the season posed increased fire risks across Los Angeles County. These winds were forecast to escalate on Thursday. Meteorologist Ryan Kittell from the National Weather Service detailed expected wind conditions, predicting sustained winds of 20-40 mph and gusts reaching 40-60 mph. In mountainous areas, gusts might climb to 70 mph.
With the dry and warm climate, humidity levels between 5% and 15% were expected. Temperatures were anticipated to reach 85-95 degrees. Under these conditions, the potential for fires was notably high, exacerbated by the dryness of vegetation.
In Malibu, officials alerted that Southern California Edison might preemptively cut power to some regions to prevent fire ignitions from electrical lines.
