Cleveland Guardians left fielder Cooper Ingle experienced a lapse during Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers that he would prefer to forget. The game stood tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning with a Rangers runner on second base and one out. Texas batter Alejandro Osuna hit a pop fly to left field where Ingle caught it, marking the second out of the inning.
However, Ingle mistakenly believed the inning had ended. He threw the ball into the stands at Progressive Field, which allowed Rangers runner Ezequiel Duran to score, giving Texas the lead. The Rangers eventually won the game 4-2. Ingle went 0-for-4 at the plate and struck out three times.
This game marked Ingle’s major league debut week, having first appeared last Friday against the Seattle Mariners. Heading into the 2026 season, he was ranked 99th on MLB’s top 100 prospects list and 65th by Baseball Prospectus. Ingle is considered the third-highest ranked prospect among the Guardians.
Ingle accepted responsibility for his mistake, promising to learn from it. “Obviously you feel terrible,” he remarked to reporters via MLB.com. “It’s a pretty embarrassing feeling.” With the loss, both teams now hold a 44-42 record for the year.
