Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey recently expressed concerns about ongoing scandals involving Graham Platner, the Maine Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate. Booker’s comments came during an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week,’ where he was questioned about the potential impact of these controversies on Democratic efforts to secure a Senate seat in Maine.
Booker acknowledged the gravity of the situation by stating, “Yes, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer, and that’s what campaigns are for.” He emphasized the importance of Democrats reclaiming control of the Senate by the year 2026. “So much is riding on Democrats taking control of the Senate,” Booker remarked. He pointed out that without the necessary votes to manage both the House and the Senate, the current administration would remain unchecked.
The controversy surrounding Platner includes reports of explicit messages he allegedly sent to at least six women while married. This revelation followed a Wall Street Journal report, which mentioned that Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, informed a campaign aide about these texts. Platner’s campaign later confirmed the exchanges to Politico.
In response to the scandal, Gertner released a five-minute video. She defended her husband and criticized the focus on the scandal rather than the critical issues he aims to address, such as healthcare, education, and childcare. Gertner expressed her frustration: “So it makes me really angry, disappointed, and I find it really shameful that there’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip.”
Platner has faced other controversies, including an old tattoo that resembled a Nazi symbol and inappropriate comments made on Reddit. These past issues included minimizing sexual assault and making offensive remarks about masturbation and wounded soldiers.
Fox News Digital attempted to contact Platner’s campaign for additional comments. The article was contributed to by Fox News’ Brie Stimson, with associate editor Lindsay Kornick providing further details. For story tips, Kornick can be reached via email or on Twitter.
