Impact of Dansby Swanson’s Injury

The Chicago Cubs’ roster came under scrutiny before their game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. This intensified when Dansby Swanson left the field after his first pitch, resulting in a disappointing 11-4 loss for the Cubs. Swanson, the team’s shortstop, left due to tightness on his left side, which might result in a stint on the injured list, according to manager Craig Counsell.

The Cubs lack a backup first baseman since the trade deadline and seek someone to relieve Busch or cover if he’s injured.

Pitching Concerns: Edward Cabrera’s Struggles

Edward Cabrera returned from the injured list, addressing pitching woes, being a key offseason acquisition. Traded from the Miami Marlins, Cabrera came for top prospects Owen Caissie and Cristian Hernández. His return led to the temporary move of versatile pitcher Javier Assad to Iowa to maintain the 26-man roster.

Assad, with a 1.88 ERA since July, had been invaluable. However, due to limited options, Counsell chose to keep relief pitchers Ryan Rolison and Ryan Zeferjahn. This left Assad as the odd man out for the moment.

Cabrera’s Performance and Future in Rotation
