Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Sticks with Shohei Ohtani Despite Postseason Slump

The Los Angeles Dodgers have encountered a challenging decision in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Milwaukee Brewers. With the team down 2-0, manager Dave Roberts faced the tough choice of whether or not to keep Shohei Ohtani in the lineup heading into Game 3 at Dodger Stadium.

Ohtani, known for his exceptional skills, has been struggling at the plate throughout the postseason. His current batting average stands at a mere .150, with no extra-base hits or RBI to his name. These performance issues raised questions, especially after Roberts’ comments to The Athletic sparked debate on Ohtani’s inclusion in the lineup.

Despite Ohtani’s slump, Roberts decided to trust his four-time MVP. Discussions with the team’s president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, and general manager, Brandon Gomes, reinforced this decision. Ohtani expressed confidence, stating he feels good enough to play, despite dealing with knee and arm injuries throughout the season.

“He’s adamant he feels good enough to be in there,” said Roberts via The New York Post. “He’s close to finding something with his swing. I feel great about it.” Roberts also noted that his confidence in Ohtani has never wavered, hoping that this decision would help regain momentum for the back-to-back World Series champions.

Ohtani acknowledged his responsibility for his recent performance, dismissing symptoms as an excuse for his hitting struggles. Although his performances have been below his usual standards, he’s committed to helping the team win.

The game against the Brewers feels crucial for the Dodgers to recover their footing in the series. As Roberts and the team continue to support Ohtani through his challenges, fans remain hopeful for a turnaround.
