A man identified as Abdulhafedh Abdulhafedh, 25, was fatally shot by FBI agents in West Garfield Park. Court documents suggest he was part of a bank robbery crew linked to several suburban robberies. Abdulhafedh was out of prison for less than half a year after being convicted of robbing a bank in Will County. He also had an active arrest warrant in DuPage County for possession of a stolen vehicle linked to an earlier Elmhurst arrest.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office reported Abdulhafedh died of multiple gunshot wounds. His death was categorized as a homicide. The shooting incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday at the 3700 block of West Lexington Street. The FBI stated agents stopped a vehicle with subjects wanted for a violent bank robbery.
Filing from Friday revealed Abdulhafedh as “Co-Conspirator A” in connection with Dayvon Walton, the alleged leader of the “100K gang.” Authorities claim this group has committed or attempted several robberies in the Chicago area, including an April 21 robbery at a BMO Harris bank in St. Charles.
A social media video captures a suspect firing from a vehicle’s sunroof after federal agents intercepted it. The affidavit claims Walton and others were in an SUV driven by Abdulhafedh. Walton and two others fled the vehicle, but Abdulhafedh stayed inside. A video shows agents surrounding an SUV while another vehicle attempted to escape. Agents deployed a flash grenade, shattering the SUV’s sunroof, followed by the driver firing at agents, who responded with gunfire.
The FBI emphasized that incidents involving agents are taken seriously. The matter is under review by the agency’s Inspection Division with no additional details released yet. Walton was later detained on Thursday. During an interview without legal representation, he confessed to the April 21 robbery and an attempted one in Niles on April 6.
Records indicate Abdulhafedh’s conviction for a 2023 bank robbery in Will County led to a four-year prison sentence. The Illinois Department of Corrections listed his parole date as Jan. 8, 2026. In the same year, he was also convicted in Cook County for possessing a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing, resulting in a three-year sentence. His criminal history includes prior convictions for burglary and theft.
