Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of The Trump Organization, recently participated in a crypto event in Dubai. The financial activities involving the Trump family have sparked significant attention due to substantial investments and losses.
Recent reports highlighted the financial gains made by President Trump and his sons since his presidency began, totaling around $2.2 billion according to the 2025 tax returns. However, while the Trump family has profited, investors have experienced substantial losses, raising questions about the risks involved in investing in Trump-related enterprises.
Trump Meme Coin Collapse
The Trump meme coin, launched in January 2025, experienced an initial peak of $75 before it plummeted steadily, resulting in a 98% loss in value. As of now, its worth is approximately $1.57. By January 21, the day following the inauguration, the coin’s value had decreased to $44. It continued to fall to $15 by February 12 and further plummeted to around $8 by mid-April.
The New York Times estimates that nearly 1 million investors lost roughly $3.8 billion by the end of June. However, the president earned $636 million in fees from managing these transactions.
Exclusive Investor Events
In May 2025, an exclusive investor dinner was held at the Trump National Golf Club, attended by major stakeholders of the Trump meme coin. Among them was Justin Sun, a crypto billionaire who invested $18.5 million to secure his seat next to the president. In total, investors spent an estimated $148 million to participate, with the top 25 holders investing over $111 million.
Despite the significant losses, few investors voiced complaints, largely because some purchased the $TRUMP memecoin to gain access to exclusive events with the Trump family.
The World Liberty Financial Venture
Prior to the presidential election, President Trump, alongside Steve Witkoff, created World Liberty Financial, a platform aiming to blend traditional finance with blockchain technology. Despite limited experience in cryptocurrencies, Trump handed over control to Witkoff’s son, Zach, and Eric Trump after winning the election.
Investments poured into World Liberty Financial, with values declining 81% since last September. Despite this, Trump reported $1.2 billion in income from this venture and the meme coin. Justin Sun sued the company, citing breach of contract and fraud, although Zach Witkoff denied these claims. The Trumps have filed a countersuit.
Political Impact
The political implications of these financial dealings are significant. If Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November, they intend to investigate Trump’s financial transactions. Trump’s ventures may be advantageous economically but could have adverse political repercussions, especially for Republicans who remain silent on his financial activities.
The White House maintains that the president and his family have not engaged in conflicts of interest, reinforcing their commitment to the best interests of the American people.
