Matthew and Brady Tkachuk will soon reunite in Florida after the Panthers cemented a major deal. On Sunday night, Florida and Ottawa finalized a trade, sending Brady Tkachuk to Florida in exchange for four draft picks. The Panthers relinquished this year’s No. 9 draft pick, Tampa Bay’s first-round pick, and their own second-round pick in 2027, along with a top-10-protected first-round pick in 2029.
Florida’s acquisition enhances their forward line without sacrificing any of their top scorers from the previous season. Bill Zito, Panthers hockey operations president and general manager, expressed enthusiasm over the new addition, stating, “Brady is a dynamic competitor and a physical, relentless forward. A proven leader, he improves those around him both on and off the ice. We’re thrilled to welcome Brady to South Florida as we continue to pursue championship hockey.”
Brady Tkachuk, who has spent his eight-year NHL career with Ottawa, now joins his brother in Florida. Matthew Tkachuk has been with the Panthers for four seasons, earning two Stanley Cups and reaching the Finals three times. Brady has two seasons remaining on a seven-year, $57.56 million contract signed in 2021 when he was named Ottawa’s captain.
Steve Staios, Senators general manager, acknowledged the gravity of this decision, stating, “This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club. We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster.” The trade aligns with both strategic interests and family connections. The Tkachuk brothers have previously played together for USA Hockey, including winning silver at the 4 Nations Face-Off and gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics.
The Panthers already have ties with the Tkachuk family, as their parents often attend games. Brady Tkachuk also has existing relationships with others in the Florida organization due to these USA Hockey connections. These ties reinforce the synergy that Brady will bring to the team.
During his tenure with Ottawa, Brady Tkachuk emerged as a leader in numerous categories, including goals (213), points (463), and power-play goals (62). His impact with Ottawa was considerable, leading some categories by significant margins.
The Panthers now boast a roster featuring several top players under contract for upcoming seasons. Alongside Brady, the team includes stars like Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and others, each with Stanley Cup victories. Brady Tkachuk, joining a lineup rich in talent, could soon have his name on the Stanley Cup as well.
